About the role

Join a respected law firm in Newcastle upon Tyne as a Court of Protection Solicitor specialising in health and welfare matters. You will protect the rights and wellbeing of vulnerable individuals who may lack mental capacity, delivering advice and representation that makes a real difference.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of Court of Protection health and welfare matters from instruction to conclusion.
• Advise and represent individuals lacking capacity regarding health, care, accommodation and personal welfare.
• Prepare and submit applications, statements and other legal documentation to the Court of Protection.
• Liaise with family members, deputies, social workers, healthcare professionals and local authorities.
• Provide clear, accessible advice on best‑interests decision‑making and resolve disputes.
• Ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005, court procedures and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with experience in Court of Protection health and welfare work, or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and related legislation.
• Ability to handle sensitive cases with empathy and professionalism.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Court of Protection procedures and mental capacity law.
• Excellent legal drafting and case management abilities.
