KS1 Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a qualified KS1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Edgbaston, Birmingham from September 2026. The role is full‑time, term‑time only, and offers the chance to support young learners in phonics, literacy and numeracy while working closely with teachers and the SENCO.

Key responsibilities

• Provide whole‑class support alongside the class teacher to keep pupils engaged.
• Deliver targeted small‑group interventions in phonics, reading, literacy and numeracy.
• Support pupils with SEN, including Autism, ADHD and speech‑language needs.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering a differentiated KS1 curriculum.
• Monitor pupil progress and adapt support in collaboration with the SENCO.
• Promote positive behaviour, confidence and independence throughout the day.

Required profile

• Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent).
• Previous experience in a Key Stage 1 setting.
• Strong understanding of the KS1 curriculum and child development.
• Experience delivering phonics interventions and supporting early reading.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEN in a mainstream primary school.
• Excellent communication and behaviour‑management skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of recognised phonics schemes.
• Ability to plan and deliver small‑group learning activities.
