About the role
We are seeking a proactive Linux Infrastructure Engineer to maintain and evolve our critical Linux and HPUX environments. Based in Leeds, you will ensure services are robust, secure and ready to support the business daily.
Key responsibilities
- Administer and optimise Linux platforms (RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu or similar).
- Deliver OS upgrades, patching cycles, kernel tuning and performance improvements.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts to increase efficiency.
- Support the migration from HPUX to Linux.
- Handle 3rd‑line escalations from the service desk.
- Monitor alerting tools and act on critical warnings.
- Contribute ideas in team meetings to resolve root causes and improve reliability.
- Identify and escalate risks related to servers, capacity or manufacturing.
- Lead or participate in regular disaster‑recovery testing.
- Collaborate across locations, travelling when required to resolve issues.
- Manage workload, balancing tickets and projects, and act as escalation point for complex software or hardware problems.
Required profile
- Hands‑on experience with Linux (RHEL, SLES or similar).
- Experience administering HPUX environments (preferred).
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper‑V.
- Solid understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls).
- Over five years’ experience in the UK IT landscape.
- Excellent communication, organisational and documentation skills.
- Calm, adaptable approach and willingness to travel to other sites.
