Linux System Administrator – Onsite in Manchester

About the role
DXC Technology is seeking a Linux System Administrator to join its Manchester team. You will work across multiple groups, providing first‑ and second‑level support while driving continuous service improvement in a secure, customer‑focused environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide first and second level technical support for incidents and problems.
- Monitor system performance and ensure smooth functionality.
- Create, maintain and utilise documentation.
- Assist in building compliance with processes and policies.
Required profile
- Excellent organisation and time‑management skills.
- Experience working to ITIL best practices.
- Proactive attitude toward identifying root causes and risks.
- Willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
Required skills
- Proficiency with UNIX/Linux platforms (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX, etc.).
- Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell).
- Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef).
- Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers).
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP).
- Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS).
- Performance tuning and monitoring (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat).
- Scripting with Bash, Python and version control with Git.
- Experience with AWS and cloud automation.
- Virtualisation and container technologies (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman).
