Litigation Lawyer – Permanent, Hybrid, London

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Litigation Lawyer to join a dynamic in‑house legal team within a London borough council. The role is permanent, hybrid and offers the opportunity to manage a varied caseload of civil, criminal and judicial review matters.

Key responsibilities

• Handle criminal and civil litigation matters under the supervision of a Senior Lawyer.
• Prepare and conduct judicial review cases.
• Provide legal advice to council members and officers, including licensing committees.
• Undertake negotiations, draft pleadings and attend relevant meetings.
• Assist with prosecutions and other contentious proceedings as required.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with experience in litigation.
• Demonstrated experience in at least three of the following areas: homelessness, prosecutions, licensing, judicial review, education, litigation, no recourse to public funds.
• Ability to work under direction of a Senior Lawyer and manage a varied caseload.
• Understanding of local authority environment is advantageous but not essential.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of civil and criminal procedure.
• Experience drafting pleadings, statements and other court documents.
• Effective negotiation and advocacy skills.
• Ability to advise non‑legal stakeholders on legal matters.
