Mechanical Engineer – Water & Wastewater Projects (All Levels)

About the role

Egis is expanding its UK Water business and is looking for mechanical engineers at all seniority levels to join a fast‑growing, high‑visibility team. You will work on nationally significant water and wastewater programmes, delivering sustainable and innovative treatment solutions across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead mechanical design packages from feasibility through detailed design for major water and wastewater schemes (e.g., AMP8, WINEP, SROs).
• Produce P&IDs, perform equipment sizing calculations, and prepare specifications, datasheets, schedules and procurement documents for pumps, tanks, pipework, lifting systems and related plant.
• Conduct site visits to gather data and liaise with operators, technology providers and vendors.
• Support design risk management activities such as HAZOP/SWIFT and contribute mechanical input to commissioning and performance testing.
• Provide design support during delivery, reviewing contractor submissions, answering queries and assisting with handover/commissioning.
• Participate in business development, opportunity identification, scope definition and bid preparation.
• Assist with recruitment, mentoring and team development initiatives.

Required profile

• BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership, depending on level.
• Experience in mechanical design for water/wastewater infrastructure is desirable.

Required skills

• Mechanical design and engineering of water & wastewater assets.
• Creation of P&IDs and equipment sizing calculations.
• Specification writing, datasheet preparation and procurement documentation.
• HAZOP/SWIFT risk assessment participation.
• Commissioning strategy development and performance testing.
