Medical Assessor (Doctor) – Hybrid – Birmingham

About the role

As a Medical Assessor for Maximus you will conduct clinical reviews and assessments that inform benefit entitlement decisions for programmes such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Work Capability Assessments (WCA), Industrial Injuries Benefit (IIB) and the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS). The position is hybrid, based in Birmingham, and offers flexible hours for qualified doctors.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out thorough clinical assessments of individuals with physical, mental health, neurological, respiratory or vaccine‑related conditions.
• Produce clear, factual reports that support benefit decisions and professional development.
• Provide advice to case managers on complaints and enquiries from customers, welfare groups, MPs and the DWP.
• Deliver outcomes and feedback on complaints about healthcare professionals to drive business and service improvements.

Required profile

• Valid GMC registration number.
• At least 5 years post‑registration clinical experience in the UK.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional, empathetic approach with the ability to assess complex and mental health cases.
• Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available).

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer software and digital tools for report generation.
