About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Assistant to support young people’s mental health and wellbeing within a mainstream school setting in Stroud. You will work closely with students who have social, emotional and mental health needs, as well as complex needs, autism and learning differences.
Key responsibilities
- Support students with emotional regulation, wellbeing and engagement in learning.
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support tailored to individual needs.
- Assist with behaviour strategies and promote positive coping mechanisms.
- Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals.
Required profile
- A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
- Experience supporting SEN, SEMH or challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Interest in mental health, SEN and child development.
- Psychology, counselling, education or related background desirable.
- Previous experience with young people or mental health beneficial but not essential.
