Pastoral Support Professional – Barnsley School

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Pastoral Support professional to join a supportive and inclusive school environment in Barnsley. The role focuses on promoting student wellbeing, improving attendance, and helping young people overcome barriers to learning. You will work closely with pupils, families, and staff to foster personal, social, and emotional development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual and small‑group pastoral support to enhance emotional wellbeing and resilience.
• Implement strategies to improve attendance, punctuality, behaviour and engagement with learning.
• Work proactively with students facing behavioural or emotional challenges, guiding them to develop positive coping strategies.
• Monitor and record student wellbeing, attendance and pastoral outcomes, reporting to school staff.
• Collaborate with teachers, safeguarding teams, parents, carers and external agencies to deliver coordinated support.

Required profile

• Previous experience in pastoral, behaviour, mentoring, youth work, education or safeguarding roles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive, professional relationships with students, families and colleagues.
• Calm, empathetic and resilient approach when supporting young people.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one through the employer.
