Pharmacy Support Worker – Higher Level

About the role

We are looking for a Pharmacy Support Worker – Higher Level to join the Medicines Optimisation team within Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Teaching Trust. The role involves working closely with the ward‑based clinical pharmacy team to ensure patients receive their medication safely, efficiently and on time. You will be based at either Pinderfields General Hospital in Wakefield or Dewsbury and District Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Review patients’ medicines on admission, confirm suitability and document on the electronic prescribing system.
• Order medication electronically to prevent missed doses during hospital stay.
• Dispense medication on the ward for discharge and counsel patients on new treatments.
• Transfer medication between wards to support continuity of care.
• Collaborate with pharmacy colleagues and ward staff to maintain a smooth service.
• Provide medication support to nursing staff as required.

Required profile

• Completed NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy and Dispensing Services or an equivalent GPhC‑recognised qualification.
• Experience in a community or hospital pharmacy dispensary.
• Positive, proactive attitude with a genuine passion for patient care.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Clear communication skills and willingness to work occasional weekends, bank holidays and other Trust sites.

Required skills

• NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy and Dispensing Services (or GPhC‑recognised equivalent).
• Proficiency with electronic prescribing systems.
