Press Officer

About the role

The Law Society is seeking a motivated communications professional to join its high‑profile media relations team. In this role you will help promote and protect the Society’s reputation across broadcast, print, online and social channels, while supporting the legal profession in England and Wales.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver media strategies that enhance the Law Society’s profile and influence.
• Draft clear, concise press releases, statements and briefing materials on complex legal policy issues.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors and other media stakeholders.
• Monitor news cycles and identify opportunities for proactive media coverage.
• Respond swiftly to media enquiries and manage crisis communications when required.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a press officer, journalist or similar role.
• Strong interest in legal sector topics and ability to translate policy into media‑friendly language.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
• Experience cultivating relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
