Principal Engineer (SVP) – Investment Banking – Java

About the role

We are building a new engineering team to create an in‑house platform for a critical financial services domain. The role is senior, full‑time and based in London, focusing on delivering a scalable, flexible and fully automated system in a highly regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable, distributed systems using modern architectural patterns.
• Own the complete software development lifecycle from requirements through production and support.
• Develop and maintain microservices and APIs.
• Ensure systems are reliable, observable and secure.
• Drive engineering best practices across testing, automation and performance.
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering stakeholders to deliver robust solutions.

Required profile

• Strong experience in Java and backend development.
• Proven track record building and scaling distributed systems in production.
• Solid understanding of software architecture and system design.
• Experience in financial services or other regulated environments.
• Exposure to the full software development lifecycle.
• Familiarity with modern practices including CI/CD and automated testing.
