Principal Mechanical Design Engineer – Birmingham

About the role

We are looking for a mission‑driven Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our expanding mechanical, electrical and environmental design consultancy in Birmingham. You will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, sustainable building‑services solutions for large, complex projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design process for large‑scale building services projects from concept to completion.
• Review and approve design outputs, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
• Oversee IES modelling outputs (hands‑on modelling not required) and guarantee high‑quality results.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering their professional growth.
• Manage a small team of engineers, ensuring timely delivery of project deliverables.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and attend client/project meetings to discuss progress and solutions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design within the building‑services sector.
• Strong focus on energy efficiency, sustainability and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a technical team.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and multidisciplinary collaboration.
