Quarry Operative

About the role

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Quarry Operative to join our quarrying team in Durham. In this hands‑on position you will assist with the extraction, processing and handling of aggregates, operating heavy plant safely and efficiently. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical outdoor work, machinery and teamwork in a busy quarry environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate mobile and fixed plant such as dump trucks, loading shovels, crushers and screeners in a safe and efficient manner.
• Assist in the extraction, crushing and processing of raw materials to meet production targets.
• Carry out routine checks, cleaning and basic maintenance on machinery and equipment.
• Load and unload materials safely for transport or further processing.
• Follow daily work schedules, production instructions and conduct regular safety checks, reporting any hazards or incidents.

Required profile

• Competence in operating plant or machinery, with a CPCS or MPQC card being advantageous.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform simple maintenance tasks.
• Understanding of health and safety practices and a willingness to follow procedures.
• Good communication, teamwork and a reliable, punctual attitude.

Required skills

• Operation of mobile and fixed plant (dump trucks, loading shovels, excavators, crushers, screeners).
• CPCS or MPQC certification.
• MPQC or NVQ Level 2 in Extractives Operations.
• First Aid or IOSH Working Safely training.
