About the role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant you will work within specialist educational settings, providing vital support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, and related behavioural challenges. You will help students engage in learning, develop life skills and achieve their personal goals in a structured, supportive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide individual and small‑group support to students throughout the school day.
- Assist pupils with ASC, SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
- Encourage engagement, participation and independence in learning activities.
- Promote positive behaviour and support emotional regulation.
- Assist teaching staff with personalised learning tasks.
- Build trusting relationships to ensure students feel safe and understood.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, parents and external professionals.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people in education, care, youth work, residential support or similar settings.
- Knowledge or understanding of SEN, ASC, SEMH and behaviour support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Calm, adaptable and resilient approach.
- Positive and proactive attitude in challenging situations.
- Genuine desire to support young people to reach their full potential.
