Senior Geomatics Officer – Lead Archaeological Survey & GIS

About the role

Cotswold Archaeology is seeking a Senior Geomatics Officer to lead large, complex and strategically important geomatics projects across its organisation. The role provides technical leadership in archaeological survey, GIS, reality capture and digital workflows while supporting the development of standards and innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver large‑scale geomatics projects, ensuring high‑quality survey, GIS and reality capture outputs.
• Provide technical advice on equipment, software and geospatial requirements for projects and tenders.
• Oversee the collection, processing, management, quality assurance and archiving of geomatics data and metadata.
• Maintain and configure geomatics hardware and software, including GNSS, Total Stations, ArcGIS Pro and CAD systems.
• Mentor Geomatics Officers and Assistant Geomatics Officers, contributing to training programmes and professional development.

Required profile

• Degree, postgraduate qualification or 5+ years’ experience in archaeology, geomatics, surveying, geography or related discipline.
• Extensive experience with archaeological field survey, GNSS and Total Station equipment.
• Proven ability to manage large or complex spatial data workflows and ensure data archiving standards.
• Strong experience using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and associated mobile GIS capabilities.
• Advanced competence with CAD systems and processing photogrammetry and LiDAR datasets.
