Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering business focused on the restoration, recreation and improvement of classic and historic vehicles. You will take concepts through to manufacture, seeing your designs move from CAD to the finished vehicle.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and systems from concept through to manufacture.
• Produce 3D CAD models, detailed drawings and Bills of Materials.
• Reverse‑engineer existing and obsolete components using measurements and 3D scanning.
• Develop design improvements for performance, reliability and manufacturability.
• Work across suspension, steering, braking, drivetrain, engine, chassis and power‑train systems.
• Collaborate closely with workshop, machining and fabrication teams.
• Support prototyping, testing and installation activities.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians.

Required profile

• Strong mechanical design background with automotive or mechanical engineering experience.
• Excellent SolidWorks proficiency.
• Experience with Inventor, CATIA or Solid Edge is advantageous.
• Demonstrated reverse‑engineering experience.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes, including gear design.
• Ability to work independently and mentor others.

What we offer

• Salary: £55,000‑£60,000 DOE
• Working hours: Mon‑Thu 8:30‑17:00, Fri 8:30‑14:00
• Holiday entitlement: 20 days plus bank holidays
