Software Developer – Hybrid (Croydon, Manchester or Sheffield)

About the role

The Home Office is looking for a Developer to join a hybrid team working across Croydon, Manchester or Sheffield. You will contribute to the design, development and improvement of software components that support public‑sector products, working under the guidance of senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable, secure code using modern languages and frameworks.
• Write clean, test‑driven code and ensure components are reusable and open where possible.
• Collaborate with team members to follow technical standards and best practices.
• Debug and troubleshoot issues in development and production environments.
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines and version‑control processes.

Required profile

• Demonstrable passion for software development.
• Ability to apply software design principles and patterns.
• Experience with unit, integration and BDD/TDD testing approaches.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for debugging across environments.
• Willingness to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance (5 years UK residency required).
