Software Engineer - Developer Experience

About the role

Matillion is building the first AI Data Automation platform and needs a mid‑level Software Engineer to join its Internal Engineering Platform team in Manchester. You will own the end‑to‑end developer lifecycle, turning friction points into production‑grade solutions using Python.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and resolve friction in the developer lifecycle, from problem definition to production operation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, build tooling, and self‑service release processes.
• Design and develop AI‑driven, agentic tooling that standardises how engineers use AI for coding, testing and shipping.
• Create and maintain local development environments, hermetic builds and templating tools to accelerate service deployment.
• Partner with engineering teams across Matillion to gather feedback, provide support and enforce source‑control and release governance.

Required profile

• Mid‑level experience across software engineering and DevOps/SRE.
• Strong hands‑on Python skills.
• Curiosity about system design and ability to operate autonomously in a small, high‑impact team.
