Teaching Assistant – SEN Support (Full‑Time, Temp‑to‑Perm)

About the role

Long Term Futures is looking for a compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Birmingham. The role provides one‑to‑one support for children with a range of special educational needs, helping them access learning and achieve their individual goals. It is a full‑time, temp‑to‑perm position offering a rewarding, hands‑on experience in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with diverse Special Educational Needs.
• Assist children in accessing learning activities tailored to their abilities and EHCP targets.
• Build positive, trusting relationships that promote safety, confidence, and engagement.
• Support emotional regulation and apply positive behaviour management strategies.
• Deliver personal care respectfully and professionally when required.
• Encourage independence, communication, and social interaction throughout the school day.
• Monitor pupil progress and share observations with teachers and other professionals.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain an inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children in a school, care, nursery, youth work, or similar setting.
• Resilient, positive attitude and ability to stay calm in challenging situations.
• Comfortable providing personal care as part of daily duties (essential).
• Patient, caring, and committed to supporting children with additional needs.
• Strong relationship‑building skills while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Reliable, punctual, and seeking a long‑term placement.
