About the role
The Typist provides essential transcription and typing services for the Justice Centre, preparing full transcripts, summaries and evidential documents from digitally recorded interviews to support prosecution and pre‑charge files.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare full transcripts and concise summaries of multi‑media recorded interviews for inclusion in case files.
- Produce typed evidential documents ready for prosecution.
- Retrieve all relevant multi‑media evidence required for transcription.
- Update IT systems to accurately record the location and status of multi‑media evidence.
- Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role’s level and grading.
Required profile
- 5 GCSEs (grades A‑C) including English language, or equivalent.
- Competent use of IT, particularly Microsoft Office packages.
- Ability to type at least 50 words per minute (tested at interview).
- Experience working as part of a team and summarising information accurately.
- Resilience to handle potentially distressing material and prolonged headset use.
Required skills
- Audio typing proficiency.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fast and accurate typing (minimum 50 wpm).
