Youth Engagement Mentor (Part‑time, Temporary)

About the role

As a Youth Engagement Mentor you will work one‑on‑one with young people who are persistently absent or excluded from school. The role focuses on rebuilding stability, confidence and a pathway back to learning or vocational training.

Key responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships by meeting students in their environment, often at their homes.
• Deliver 1:1 sessions that support emotional regulation, self‑esteem and confidence.
• Facilitate low‑pressure, interest‑based activities to re‑ignite a habit of learning.
• Accompany students to interviews, placements and teach practical life skills such as budgeting and public transport navigation.
• Represent the young person in multi‑agency meetings with Social Care and CAMHS, and support parents in creating a supportive home environment.

Required profile

• Resilience, empathy and a genuine desire to help vulnerable youth.
• Ability to work flexibly across Manchester and surrounding areas.
• Experience or interest in youth work, education support or related fields.

Required skills

• Trauma‑informed communication.
• Basic knowledge of SEND, SEMH and complex barriers to learning.
• Strong organisational and advocacy skills.
