1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant – KS1 (Down Syndrome)

About the role

This full‑time position supports a Key Stage 1 pupil with Down Syndrome in an inclusive primary school in Islington. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to deliver personalised learning throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for the pupil across all classroom activities.
• Adapt resources and learning tasks to meet the child’s individual needs.
• Encourage independence, participation and confidence in academic and social settings.
• Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the pupil’s individual support plan.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEND professionals to ensure consistent progress.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with SEND in a primary school.
• Experience with Down Syndrome or similar additional needs is highly desirable.
• Patient, caring and nurturing approach.
• Strong understanding of inclusive education and positive behaviour strategies.
