3rd Line IT Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced 3rd Line IT Engineer to act as the senior technical escalation point for complex IT issues across a multi‑site further education college. You will support both on‑premise and cloud‑based infrastructure, work closely with several departments, lead problem‑solving initiatives and contribute to ongoing digital transformation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the escalation point for complex 2nd and 3rd line technical issues.
• Support and maintain Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP environments.
• Manage and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 and enterprise applications.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, backups, patching and disaster‑recovery solutions.
• Support virtualisation platforms and cloud services (VMWare, Azure).
• Participate in infrastructure upgrades, digital transformation projects and continuous service improvement.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and knowledge‑base articles.
• Collaborate with internal teams and third‑party suppliers to deliver high‑quality IT services.

Required profile

• Significant experience in a 3rd Line Support or Infrastructure Support role.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration.
• Experience managing Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.
• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and enterprise business applications.
• Knowledge of VMWare and Azure environments.
• Experience with system monitoring, patch management and backup solutions.
• Desirable: experience working within an education environment.

What we offer

• Salary: £40,000 – £44,000 per annum.
• Full‑time hours: Monday to Friday, 08:45 – 17:00.
• Multi‑site role based in Surrey.
