5-Axis CNC Milling Machinist (Programmer)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced 5‑axis CNC Milling Machinist (Programmer) to join our precision engineering team in Portsmouth. You will program, set up and operate high‑spec 5‑axis CNC milling machines to produce complex components to exacting tolerances.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and edit CNC programs for 5‑axis milling operations using Heidenhain controls.
• Set up machines, load tools and fixtures, and run production batches.
• Interpret engineering drawings and translate them into accurate machining instructions.
• Monitor machining processes, make adjustments, and ensure parts meet tight tolerance and quality standards.
• Maintain machine cleanliness and perform routine maintenance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in 5‑axis CNC milling programming.
• Strong knowledge of Heidenhain control systems.
• Hands‑on experience with CAM software.
• Ability to read and work from detailed engineering drawings.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
