999 Call Handler – Emergency Medical Dispatcher

About the role

The 999 Call Handler works in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) as the first point of contact for anyone dialing 999. You will assess callers, record vital information and provide advice or reassurance, ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time.

Key responsibilities

• Answer 999 emergency calls and determine the seriousness of each incident.
• Record accurate patient details and clinical information using the EOC computer system.
• Provide appropriate advice, reassurance and guidance to callers.
• Prioritise calls and dispatch ambulance resources accordingly.
• Work rotating shifts covering 24/7 service, including weekends and holidays.
• Participate in training and assessment centres as required.
