About the role
The University of Cambridge invites applications for a three‑year, non‑renewable Academic Career Development Fellowship in global politics and international relations focused on the Middle East, North Africa, or South Asia. The post is jointly appointed to the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) and Girton College, beginning 1 September 2026.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct high‑quality research in the designated regional focus, contributing to the department’s scholarly output.
- Deliver teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across POLIS and Girton College.
- Participate in departmental governance, examination duties, and college service activities.
- Allocate approximately 40% of POLIS time to protected research, with the remainder split between teaching, examining, and service.
- Provide up to 80 hours of supervision annually for Girton College students.
Required profile
- PhD in a relevant discipline (political science, international relations, area studies, etc.).
- Demonstrated outstanding research record appropriate to early‑career stage.
- Clear vision for future research trajectory and its contribution to POLIS and Girton College.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Required skills
- Strong academic writing and publishing experience.
- Proficiency in teaching methods for lectures, seminars, and supervisions.
- Ability to engage with multidisciplinary academic communities.
