Academic Director – Animal Research Infrastructure Services

About the role
The Academic Director will lead the transformation of the Medical Sciences Division’s animal research infrastructure and services. This senior executive position is part‑time (0.6 FTE) on a five‑year fixed‑term contract, offering a competitive ALC6 salary (pro rata) and hybrid working.
Key responsibilities
- Provide visible academic leadership to the research community while overseeing executive functions.
- Lead the Biomedical Services Unit (≈100 staff) and coordinate infrastructure across the division and university.
- Accountability for performance, financial sustainability, governance, risk and compliance in a highly regulated environment.
- Develop and execute strategy, direct delivery, and assure performance in line with the division’s vision.
- Report to the Head of Division and work with senior academic, professional services, regulatory and external stakeholders.
Required profile
- Established academic standing in biomedical, clinical, life‑sciences or related research.
- Experience presenting assurance reports to senior governance bodies.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop large multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong financial and resource management experience, including budget accountability.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder‑management skills.
