Accounts and Audit Senior

About the role

An experienced Accounts and Audit Senior is needed for a full‑time permanent position based in Sunderland. The role involves preparing and auditing accounts for a diverse client portfolio across sectors such as engineering, leisure, hospitality, legal and not‑for‑profit.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accounts using Sage, Xero and QuickBooks.
• Prepare corporation tax computations and VAT returns.
• Resolve queries raised by managers on accounts and working papers.
• Finalise accounts after client meetings and act as primary contact for client queries.
• Prepare management accounts.
• Lead audit assignments from planning to completion, including specialist audits for charities and SAR.
• Supervise, mentor and support junior team members.

Required profile

• ACA/ACCA/AAT qualified, finalist, or qualified by experience.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an accountancy practice.
• Strong technical knowledge of current legislation.
• Experience preparing year‑end accounts for owner‑managed businesses.
• Proven statutory audit experience.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and budgets.
• Proactive, organised and detail‑oriented.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a car preferred.
