Accounts Payable Assistant

About the role

We are seeking an Accounts Payable Assistant to join the finance team in Biggleswade on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Accounts Payable Manager, you will help ensure the purchase ledger runs smoothly while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices, credit notes and payments accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain the purchase ledger and related control accounts.
• Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare payment runs using BACS and electronic banking systems.
• Process intercompany invoices and support intercompany reconciliations.
• Assist with month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Produce reports to support financial reporting and business performance.
• Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, resolving queries promptly.
• Support continuous improvements within the Accounts Payable function and ensure compliance with company policies and financial controls.
• Provide ad‑hoc support to the wider finance team as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an Accounts Payable or Purchase Ledger role.
• Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Good communication skills and ability to build effective relationships.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proactive and positive attitude with willingness to support the wider finance team.
