Accounts Senior – SME Portfolio

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Senior to join a supportive, growing accountancy practice in Newcastle upon Tyne. You will manage your own portfolio of SME and owner‑managed business clients, delivering high‑quality accounting and tax services while developing your professional career.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Prepare corporation tax and personal tax returns.
• Act as the primary point of contact for your client portfolio, offering practical advice and handling day‑to‑day queries.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through excellent service.
• Liaise with HMRC and other third parties as required.
• Support and mentor junior team members where appropriate.
• Collaborate across the practice to ensure a seamless client experience.
• Identify process‑improvement opportunities and add value for clients.

Required profile

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
• Proven ability to prepare accounts for SMEs, sole traders and partnerships.
• Experience preparing corporation tax and personal tax returns.
• Capability to manage a client portfolio independently.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Strong organisational abilities with a focus on meeting multiple deadlines.
• High accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proactive, positive and team‑focused attitude.
