Actuary - General Insurance Pricing and Reserving

About the role

Howden's analytics actuarial team supports its Insurance, Reinsurance and Capital Markets businesses across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Australasia. The London-based Actuary delivers actuarial and analytical solutions for brokers, insurers and reinsurers, working in a multidisciplinary team with actuarial and catastrophe modelling experts. The role does not require the actuarial qualification, and Howden supports candidates who wish to study, continue or maintain their professional qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with colleagues across Howden and the wider Analytics team on projects related to (re)insurance placements or tender opportunities.
• Apply and refine actuarial and analytical techniques to deliver advisory and placement projects, working alongside senior and junior colleagues.
• Lead client and research projects commensurate with experience and skills.
• Build your network by interacting with colleagues, peers and clients, and help retain existing accounts and win new business.

Required profile

• Established practitioner in General Insurance with expertise in pricing, reserving and/or capital modelling.
• Pricing and reserving experience preferably in casualty reinsurance, and confidence in analysing, designing and pricing indemnity and parametric reinsurance structures.
• Experience can come from a consultancy, broker or carrier.
• Enthusiasm for continuous learning, a focus on project delivery, an owner's mindset and a desire to mentor junior team members.
• Good interpersonal skills, listening and communication abilities, and willingness to work with brokers, carriers and insureds.
