Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Medicines Value

About the role

This position combines clinical pharmacy expertise with a focus on delivering financial sustainability across the medicines expenditure. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to optimise the use of specialist and high‑cost medicines while maintaining high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a medicines value improvement programme to maximise value for money.
• Lead cost‑improvement projects and support the implementation of initiatives such as biosimilar switches and Blueteq approvals.
• Analyse medicine usage and expenditure data to identify financial risk and improvement opportunities.
• Facilitate approval, appropriate use, and audit of high‑cost drugs (HCDs).
• Collaborate with pharmacy procurement to minimise off‑contract purchasing and manage supply‑chain disruptions.
• Provide support to clinical teams during medicines‑value project implementation.
• Deliver the medicines‑value education programme and complete annual horizon‑scanning processes.

Required profile

• Qualified clinical pharmacist with experience in hospital pharmacy services.
• Strong analytical abilities and a data‑driven approach to cost optimisation.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Adaptable and capable of balancing patient‑care delivery with financial efficiency.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic prescribing systems.
• Experience using Blueteq approval system.
• Knowledge of biosimilar switch implementation.
• Ability to interpret business‑intelligence data for medicines‑value decisions.
