Advanced Occupational Therapist – Frailty Practitioner

About the role

This is a newly created Advanced Occupational Therapist position within the Acute and Frailty services at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. You will work across Front Door services, the Frailty Unit and downstream wards, supporting patients from admission through to safe discharge.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive OT assessments, set goals, deliver treatment and manage complex caseloads.
• Apply home‑first principles and lead discharge planning for acute and frailty patients.
• Provide expert clinical reasoning, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to service development, policy implementation and monitoring of clinical standards.
• Supervise, teach and evaluate students and staff within the specialty.
• Participate in weekend and Bank Holiday rotas to ensure continuity of care.

Required profile

• Dynamic, adaptable OT able to manage daily operations of the Frailty Unit.
• Strong clinical expertise with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care and improving outcomes for complex needs.
• Demonstrated competence across all four pillars of advanced practice.
