Advanced Social Work Practitioner – LADO (Temporary)

About the role

Our client, Sheffield City Council, is seeking an Advanced Social Work Practitioner to join its Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) service on a six‑week temporary assignment. The role involves leading complex safeguarding investigations concerning adults in positions of trust who work with children.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate investigations into allegations and concerns about adults working with children, ensuring compliance with statutory guidance and local procedures.
• Chair or contribute to multi‑agency safeguarding forums and provide clear, defensible decisions on complex cases.
• Maintain constructive relationships with senior leaders, partner organisations and external agencies while offering challenge when required.
• Deliver timely, proportionate responses and produce high‑quality reflective reports.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker with substantial post‑qualifying experience in children’s safeguarding.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex information and make sound judgments.
• Excellent communication skills, able to remain calm and professional in highly sensitive situations.
• Commitment to reflective practice, continuous learning and collaborative working.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of relevant statutory guidance, legislation and best practice in adult and child safeguarding.
• Experience of chairing multi‑agency safeguarding meetings.
• Ability to produce clear, defensible written decisions and reports.
