Air Conditioning Engineer

About the role

Elite People is looking for a skilled Air Conditioning/HVAC Engineer to join its Facilities Management division. Based in Bristol, you will service commercial and retail sites across the UK, delivering planned maintenance, reactive support and new installations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive service for commercial and retail clients.
• Install HVAC systems, ductwork, controls, thermostats, actuators and smart energy solutions.
• Commission new equipment, perform system testing and verify operational performance.
• Produce service reports, RAMS, commissioning sheets and asset logs.
• Diagnose and repair refrigeration circuits, ventilation systems, pumps, valves and control devices.
• Maintain accurate records in CAFM systems, including F‑Gas certification and refrigerant handling logs.
• Provide out‑of‑hours emergency call‑out cover as part of the engineering rota.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in commercial HVAC/F‑Gas work.
• F‑Gas qualification (essential).
• City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 2/3 in Mechanical Engineering, Heating & Ventilation or Building Services.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive problem‑solving approach.

Required skills

• F‑Gas certification and handling.
• HVAC system installation and commissioning.
• Ductwork installation and balancing.
• Control systems (thermostats, actuators, smart energy interfaces).
• Use of diagnostic tools – gauges, multimeters, airflow meters, BMS interfaces.
• Refrigerant leak testing and documentation.
