Airport Ground Services Operator

About the role

Thatcham Research is recruiting an Airport Ground Services Operator for its on-site Gamston (Retford) Airport, a dual-operations site that includes a private airport with an onsite restaurant and automotive track testing for Thatcham Research. Reporting to the AGSO Team Leader, you will work with a team to keep ground aviation activities running smoothly. The role is a 6-month fixed-term contract, full-time preferred but part-time considered.

Key responsibilities

• Be the first responder to airport emergencies during operational hours
• Position and refuel aircraft in line with local rules and regulations
• Carry out hands-on maintenance of airport facilities, equipment and hangars, and report issues promptly
• Inspect runways and manoeuvring areas, including fuel sampling and checks for foreign object debris and snow
• Inspect service and support vehicles and support fire prevention, including evacuation procedures and alarm response
• Uphold access control, airside driving and dual-operation procedures
• Provide humanitarian assistance on and off the airfield, for example in road traffic accidents
• Support aviation and automotive testing activities and oversee safe ground movement of aircraft and company vehicles

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar role, firefighting and rescue or aviation operations
• Previous experience manoeuvring, towing or tugging large equipment (HGV licence desirable)
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, able to work under pressure and on initiative
• Physically able to complete all firefighting tasks

• Competent use of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams

• Salary of circa £29,000 depending on skills and experience
