Area Director – SME Trading Sectors

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Area Director to lead our SME Trading Team across Oxford, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. In this senior position you will act as a market ambassador, build powerful networks and ensure the delivery of first‑class banking services to our small‑ and medium‑enterprise clients.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to strategic leadership and planning for the SME South Commercial Coverage sector.
• Inspire, mentor, develop and appraise team members, promoting equal opportunities and high performance.
• Support the Relationship team with specialist knowledge, local business plans and portfolio management while ensuring compliance.
• Oversee the development, structuring and assessment of client proposals to generate income and implement solutions.
• Monitor team performance against business objectives, supervise regulated products and take corrective actions as needed.
• Provide relationship management support to clients and introducers across all segments, responding effectively to business needs.
• Engage regularly with senior client stakeholders at MD, FD and Board level.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience within SME banking or commercial coverage.
• Strong track record of mentoring and developing high‑performing teams.
• Ability to contribute to sector strategy and collaborate with senior colleagues.
• Excellent understanding of compliance, policy and regulated product oversight.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with senior client executives.
