Assistant Accountant – Cloud Accountancy Practice

About the role

A modern, cloud‑focused accountancy practice in Sheffield is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its growing team. You will manage a varied client portfolio, including a key property and construction client, and work directly with customers from start to finish.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day accounting for a portfolio of clients, including a major property and construction client.
• Prepare year‑end accounts for owner‑managed businesses and submit VAT returns.
• Handle CIS accounting and compliance requirements.
• Work extensively with Xero and other cloud accounting systems.
• Respond to client queries, maintain regular contact and build strong relationships.
• Assist with client payroll requirements, with training provided as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an accountancy practice or in construction/property finance.
• Practical CIS experience – essential.
• Confident user of Xero.
• AAT qualified or studying towards the qualification (or equivalent experience).
• Experience preparing VAT returns and year‑end accounts.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload remotely.
