Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Wave, the UK’s first inland surf destination, is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its growing finance team. This newly created position offers genuine ownership of month‑end processes, reconciliation work and support for professional study, with a clear pathway towards a qualified accountant role.

Key responsibilities

• Process purchase‑ledger invoices end‑to‑end, including VAT treatment, nominal coding and supplier statement reconciliations.
• Prepare a share of the monthly management accounts, including lead sheets, balance‑sheet reconciliations and journals, to achieve a five‑day close.
• Reconcile takings from multiple payment channels each month and investigate any variances.
• Support periodic stock counts and help prepare stock‑valuation schedules and related journals.
• Assist with year‑end statutory accounts, audit request packs and statistical returns.

Required profile

• At least two years’ experience in a busy finance function, part‑qualified or qualified by experience.
• Hands‑on purchase‑ledger experience, including supplier statement reconciliations.
• Demonstrated month‑end experience – preparing lead sheets, reconciliations or journals.
• Confident user of Excel, including lookups, pivot tables and SUMIFS.
• Self‑starter who asks questions, flags issues and seeks continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (lookups, pivot tables, SUMIFS).

What we offer

• Competitive salary of £31,000‑£34,000 per year, dependent on experience.
• Hybrid working – two days in the Bristol office and three days remote.
• 30 days paid holiday.
