Assistant Chief Nurse – Quality, Workforce & Professional Standards

About the role

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced senior nurse leader to join its Corporate Nursing team as Assistant Chief Nurse for Quality, Workforce and Professional Standards. This full‑time, Band 8D position will shape nursing strategy, drive quality improvement and support workforce transformation across the Trust.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Trust‑wide programmes on nursing quality metrics, dashboards and ward accreditation.
• Oversee workforce planning, skill‑mix reviews and the development of innovative care models.
• Ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements (CQC, NHSE, NMC).
• Support the Deputy Chief Nurse and act as deputy when required.
• Represent nursing interests at executive, regional and national forums.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive senior leadership experience in a large, complex healthcare setting.
• Proven ability to influence at strategic level and drive organisational change.
• Strong understanding of nursing quality, patient safety and workforce development.
• Experience of leading accreditation and regulatory inspection processes.

Required skills

• Knowledge of nursing quality measurement and dashboard development.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (CQC, NHSE, NMC).
• Expertise in workforce planning and skill‑mix analysis.
