Trust Doctor (ST1‑ST2) – Specialist Medicine (Diabetes & Metabolism)

About the role

The Royal London Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic Trust Doctor (ST1‑ST2) to join the Specialist Medicine team with a focus on Diabetes and Metabolism. The post runs from 30 September 2026 to 3 August 2027 and will be based in Respiratory Medicine, with an optional rotation to Cardiology in February 2027. You will deliver inpatient medical care and participate in the general medical on‑call rota, including weekends and nights.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence‑based inpatient care for patients with diabetes, metabolic disorders and related respiratory or cardiac conditions.
• Take comprehensive histories, perform examinations and formulate management plans.
• Prescribe medications safely and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date medical records.
• Participate in the on‑call rota, covering evenings, nights and weekends.
• Engage in departmental teaching sessions, morbidity & mortality meetings and quality improvement projects.
• Collaborate with consultants and senior staff for audits, QIPs and clinical supervision.

Required profile

• Medical graduate with eligibility for an ST1‑ST2 post in the UK.
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage acute and chronic medical problems.
• Commitment to patient safety, ethical practice and continuous learning.
• Effective communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to contribute to teaching, audits and service improvement.
