Assistant Finance Manager / Senior Bookkeeper – Up to £35k

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Finance Manager / Senior Bookkeeper to join a fast‑growing multi‑entity business in Central Bedfordshire. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will provide comprehensive financial support and have the autonomy to improve processes across the finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Financial Controller with full accounts preparation for multiple entities.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Handle billing, month‑end close and support the production of annual accounts.
• Prepare VAT returns and liaise with HMRC and external accountants.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial reporting standards.

Required profile

• AAT qualification or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in a similar finance role within an SME environment.
• Experience with group and inter‑company accounting is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail and a hands‑on approach.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Practical experience using QuickBooks.
