Associate Geotechnical Engineer – London

About the role

Robert Bird Group is seeking an Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join its UK practice. You will work on complex building and infrastructure projects in dense urban environments, delivering robust and innovative geotechnical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design of deep basements, foundations, retaining structures and ground‑movement assessments.
• Interpret ground investigations and produce technical reports.
• Perform advanced numerical modelling using PLAXIS, GeoStudio, WALLAP, Repute and the Oasys suite.
• Develop design concepts and project strategies in collaboration with Directors.
• Ensure design risk management and CDM compliance throughout all project stages.
• Plan resources, manage programmes and control project costs.
• Prepare fee proposals and negotiate variations as required.
• Lead design reviews, apply QA procedures and manage sub‑consultants.
• Build strong client relationships, support new business opportunities and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Qualified civil or geotechnical engineer with experience in complex urban projects.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams.
• Strong communication and client‑facing skills.
