Audit & Accounts Assistant Manager

About the role

TPF Recruitment is supporting a well‑established, people‑focused firm of Chartered Accountants in Newbury. The Assistant Manager will lead audits for a varied portfolio of owner‑managed businesses, SMEs and not‑for‑profit organisations while developing junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate audit assignments from planning through completion, ensuring high‑quality delivery.
• Review audit work prepared by junior staff, providing coaching and technical support.
• Manage on‑site and remote audit fieldwork, liaising directly with clients.
• Identify risks, resolve technical audit and accounting matters, and prepare statutory accounts.
• Monitor budgets, deadlines and project progress, supporting managers with advisory work and business development.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified.
• Previous experience in a UK firm of Chartered Accountants with strong audit experience.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or reviewing junior team members.
• Excellent communication, relationship‑building and commercial awareness.

Required skills

• ACA or ACCA qualification.
• Working knowledge of UK GAAP and auditing standards.
