Autism Specialist Support Assistant – Full‑time, Wantage

About the role

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Autism Specialist Support Assistant to join a leading specialist school in Wantage. The role is full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑3:45 pm, with an ASAP start and a long‑term commitment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct support to children aged 4‑16 with complex autism and learning disabilities.
• Assist therapists and on‑site psychologists during therapeutic sessions.
• Help deliver a range of therapeutic and educational activities outside traditional lessons.
• Shadow qualified staff to develop skills in special‑needs education and mental‑health support.
• Maintain a safe, empathetic, and engaging environment for vulnerable learners.

Required profile

• Passionate about supporting children with special needs.
• Proactive, adaptable and able to work independently.
• Experience with children or adults with special needs is beneficial.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to help vulnerable members of the community.
