Autism Support Assistant (ASD) – Swindon

About the role

This position supports a child with autism who has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in a mainstream primary school. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO, gaining experience alongside speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and occupational therapists.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one assistance to the designated ASD learner throughout the school day (8:30 am‑3:30 pm).
• Implement the child’s EHCP targets and outcomes under guidance from the SENCO.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt learning activities and classroom environments.
• Observe and record the learner’s progress and share observations with the multidisciplinary team.
• Support the child in social interactions and transitions within the school setting.

Required profile

• Empathetic, patient and enthusiastic about supporting children with special educational needs.
• Committed to a long‑term placement with the same learner.
• Willingness to work closely with teachers, SENCO and external specialists.
• Previous experience working with children with autism is desirable.
