Backend Engineer – Python & FastAPI for Sports AI

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to build real‑time, data‑rich AI products for the sports industry. You will design and maintain high‑performance APIs that power our cutting‑edge sports analytics platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable APIs using Python and FastAPI.
• Implement real‑time data streaming solutions, including Server‑Sent Events and WebSockets.
• Translate complex sports data and logic into clean, efficient backend code.
• Ensure systems are performant, reliable and well‑architected.
• Own the full lifecycle of your services, from deployment to ongoing iteration.
• Collaborate closely with a small, high‑calibre team to ship features quickly.

Required profile

• Strong backend engineering experience, preferably with Python and FastAPI.
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, Docker and AWS.
• Deep understanding of asynchronous programming and real‑time data handling.
• Proven system design skills and ability to solve complex problems from first principles.
• Comfortable working autonomously in a fast‑moving, small team.
• Legal right to work in the UK (no sponsorship).
