Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse – Emergency Department

About the role

The Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will lead and coordinate care across the Emergency Department, including the 8‑bed resuscitation area, Urgent Care Centre, children’s ED, CDU and SDEC services. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality emergency care for adult and paediatric patients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and take charge of all areas of the Emergency Department, including unsocial hours.
• Support senior and junior staff to ensure patient needs are met.
• Assist the Team Leader in managing a team of nurses and driving performance.
• Participate in recruitment, retention and link‑role activities to improve standards.
• Collaborate with medical, safeguarding, mental health liaison and specialty teams.

Required profile

• Well‑developed triage skills and experience coordinating multiple ED areas.
• Ability to work competently across adult and paediatric emergency settings.
• Willingness to work unsocial hours and take independent charge of clinical areas.
• Commitment to professional development and supporting team members.
