Band 8a Social Worker – Adult Social Care (Full‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Band 8a Social Worker to join an adult social care team in Torquay. The role is full‑time (37.5 hours per week) on a temporary long‑term contract, with the possibility to discuss alternative working patterns for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct S.9 adult social care assessments and develop support plans.
• Carry out mental capacity assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
• Undertake S.42 safeguarding enquiries and produce related reports.
• Perform risk assessments and carers assessments as required.
• Apply the Care Act 2014 to ensure compliance and best practice.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with adults in social care.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Degree or diploma in Social Work.
• Active registration with Social Work England (SWE).

Required skills

• Knowledge of the Care Act 2014.
• Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
• Ability to complete statutory assessments (S.9, S.42) and produce safeguarding reports.
